Christmas holds a special place in Philippine hearts. More than any other occasion, it brings families together for the longest celebration of the holiday in the world. During this period, marketers and PR specialists have traditionally aligned their themes with the yuletide spirit, creating memorable campaigns that warm the heart. Here are a few heartwarming examples from here and abroad:
Few events tug the heart more than the moment when a loved one finally comes home after years of living far and away. With over 11 million Filipino OFWs, the Philippines knows that moment intimately. OFW families dream of it and long for the homecoming. For its 2011 campaign, Coca-Cola fulfilled that yearning. The company offered three Filipino OFWs a free ride home to surprise their families. Each homecoming was filmed, from the trip all the way to the tearful reunion. Coca-Cola became the company that brought Filipino families together.
American casual dining chain TGI Friday’s tapped a romantic Christmas tradition for its PR campaign: kissing under the mistletoe. But instead of hanging mistletoe over the door, they took advantage of modern technology and attached the plant under a drone, which was made to hover above the heads of the customers. The charming campaign delighted many who wanted to experience the novelty, increasing restaurant bookings by 11 percent.
Santa Claus has the ability to give presents to every deserving good person around the globe in just a single night. Apparently, it’s all thanks to Canadian airline company, Westjet. In this campaign, the airline’s customers were greeted by a Westjet blue-suited Santa who appeared on a screen and asked about their Christmas wishes before their flight. When they arrived at their destination, the things they wished for came out of the baggage carousel, complete with wrapping, ribbon, and a gift tag addressed to the recipient! The spirit of giving is alive and well in Westjet.
Heartfelt Christmas PR campaigns tap the spirit of the season to share love, joy, and brand perception. They provide a moving inspiration for their brand’s customers—and your campaign.
